005 Nick Hull
Oil on canvas, 20" x 20"
June 2009
Nick is my son-in-law, married to my daughter Rebecca, and father of Jasmine.
Rebecca and Jasmine told me an amusing story of their holiday in America. They visited a butterfly farm; a butterfly landed on Nick’s head. The girls prevented Nick from brushing it off in case he hurt it, so he had to walk around with the butterfly on his head. As each American said “Hey, bud, you have a butterfly on your head!” he became crosser and crosser, and the girls, as they do, became more and more amused.
Hence the inclusion of the butterfly on his head. It is not a wasp arriving, but a hornet. Nick has a season ticket to Watford FC; they are known as ‘The Hornets’. He also supports Torquay United, that being the town of his birth.
