006 Owen & Family
Oil on canvas, 24" x 24"
December 2009
Owen is my son. He has a fantastic job – Web Designer for Arsenal Football Club. He and Victoria have been together since they left University, and have two lovely daughters, Lila and Bella. Prior to their wedding in January 2010 Vicky asked me to paint Owen and the children, in secret, so that she could present it to him as a present at the Wedding Reception. Owen is a fantastic father, so this pose is very fitting.
I loved the photo of them that I used, particularly as Lila is holding Bella’s hand. Also because other photos taken at the same time showed Bella wriggling and Lila pulling funny faces!
Compositionally, there was too much blank space at the back, so I decided to fill it with a portrait of Victoria. I didn’t have a suitable digital photo of Vic, so I scanned in a two-year-old photo.
