Oil on Canvas, 20” x 20”
January 2013
Richard and Heather are our friends from Australia. They live in Yeppoon, Queensland. This is a coastal resort near Rockhampton, north of Brisbane.
Christine and Heather met during Nurse Training and subsequently worked together at Northampton General Hospital. They became, and remain, best friends. In 1970 they emigrated to Australia on the £10 assisted passage scheme. They were given nursing posts at a quirky hospital at Yeppoon.
Christine married her first husband, Russell, and returned home. Heather married Richard and stayed. Heather has four children, and continues to work part-time, nursing. She is a committed Christian.
Richard has retired, having been Associate Professor of Economics at the University of Queensland. He is the co-author of “Capital Budgeting: Financial Appraisal of Investment Projects” (available from Amazon). Richard is interested in restoring cars, and playing tennis.
Richard and Heather visit us whenever they can. The photo of them used for the painting was taken outside our front door. Christine has visited them a couple of times. On one occasion she took the photograph of their house used for the background. I decided to ignore the anomaly of Richard wearing three layers of clothing if he was really outside his own house in an Australian climate!
