036 Jasmine & Charlie
Oil on Canvas, 20” x 16”
March 2013
I painted my grand-daughter Jasmine in portrait 009, when she was 10 years-old. She is now 13, a teenager. She had recently acquired a puppy, Charlie. Charlie is a Cavapoo, a cross between a King Charles spaniel and a poodle.
I decided to paint this primarily to have an entry in the Garden Club Art competition, and to have a chance of winning. I have noticed a common theme in the entries that the judge selects as the winner. She likes subjects are pretty, twee or cute, especially if it has a nice frame. The quality of painting is low down on her priorities. I won the competition last year with my portrait 028 Emily (16 months).
The portrait won the Art Competition. Second was my portrait of Amelia Coe, (see number 039).
