Oil on Canvas, 20” x 20”
Jackie is the wife of Bob Reeves. I painted Bob in painting number 004 (four years’ ago, now!)
Bob is the Art teacher who encouraged me to take up portrait painting. I regularly attend the Life Drawing classes that Bob runs. Life Drawing is the most difficult drawing task; I find that it improves my drawing when painting.
Jackie is a good friend of ours, particularly of my wife, Christine. Several times a year we visit each other for dinner; usually we also play board games afterwards. According to Bob, Jackie’s first love is shopping for shoes and handbags. She is currently learning to play the piano.
The portrait came about at Bob’s suggestion. I told him that, because he is a good friend, I wouldn’t charge him. He offered to pay me in kind by painting something specifically for me. When I told Christine that we were painting a picture for each other she said that I should do two for him. Cheek!
At our next dinner evening Christine took some photos of Jackie. In conversation Jackie said that she loved poppy fields, so this is the basis of the background.
