039 Amelia Coe
Oil on Canvas, 20” x 16”
July 2013
My son-in-law, Dave Onions (see portrait 008) is a keen golfer; he plays with a charity called On Course Foundation, which helps injured ex-soldiers. Dave lost an eye in Bosnia. At Easter 2013, Dave arranged a golf day at Milford Haven Golf Club, in aid of the charity. This included an auction of donated prizes. I donated a prize of a portrait of a person selected by the highest bidder.
This turned out to be Mr Peter Taylor, who lives very close to me. He requested that I paint his grand-niece, Amelia, a little girl aged 18 months.
The background is an iconic view of Tenby. It is difficult to get both the seafront hotels and St Catherine’s Island in the same shot.
I finished the painting a week before the Garden Show Art Competition. I asked for and received permission from Peter to enter it. It came second, beaten by my portrait of Jasmine, portrait 036.
