Oil on Canvas Board, 12” x 16”
Christine is my adorable wife. I have painted her before (from a distance) in 017 Christine and Heidi, frolicking in the waves at Broad Haven South. She is reluctant to be painted, unless she is all dolled up, in which case she doesn’t look like herself.
My excuse for painting her this time is that she was about to go on a trip to Cape Town to stay with the family. We owed them a Christmas present so this became it.
Christine started her working life as a Nurse. In 1970 she emigrated to Australia with her best friend Heather (painted in portrait 034). They worked in an unusual hospital in Queensland. Christine returned after a couple of years and continued working as a nurse for a while. When I met her in 1984 she was the Training Officer at St Albans Hospital. Since then she has worked as a College Lecturer, and as an Autogenic Therapist (a relaxation healing technique). She has co-written the text book on Autogenic Therapy.
Since retirement Christine keeps herself busy, being Chairperson of the local Gardening Club. She is also a keen painter, specialising in local Coastal Path scenes.
